Esports aid is awarded by the program after admission, so you are an applicant to the school first. NACE is the membership body most North American varsity programs belong to, and PlayVS runs competition at the high school and college level, which makes both practical starting points for finding out who fields a Fortnite roster. Competitive results in this title are unusually public, which means a coach can often verify your record without asking you for anything.
Your competitive record does the first round of recruiting
Fortnite has the most transparent amateur track record of the collegiate titles, because tournament placements are published. A coach can check whether you have played in structured competition, how you placed, and whether you did it repeatedly. That means the most valuable thing you can do long before you apply is play the open competitive circuit and accumulate a record, whatever the results look like at first. Consistency across many events is worth more than one strong finish.
Eliminations are the least useful stat you have
Placement is the scoreline in competitive Fortnite, and elimination counts are noisy. A high elimination game can mean you played the end game brilliantly or it can mean you took every fight in a weak lobby. Coaches discount elimination totals almost entirely and look instead at whether you survive to the final circles, manage materials, and hold height without over committing. A reel built around build battle wins is answering a question nobody asked.
Build and Zero Build are different recruiting conversations
Be explicit about which mode you compete in, because the skill sets diverge sharply and programs recruit for one or the other. Build recruiting weighs piece control, mat efficiency and height retakes. Zero Build recruiting weighs cover usage, rotation timing and positioning discipline. Sending a mixed reel without labelling makes a coach do the work of separating them, and the usual outcome is that they do not.

Open with an end game, not a build battle
Start with a final circle sequence where you held a strong position and converted it. Every applicant sends box fight wins. The end game is where placement points are actually earned and it is the part coaches are trying to evaluate.

Keep the HUD with mats, storm timer and player count visible
Do not crop. Material count proves whether you managed resources or got lucky, the storm timer proves you rotated on schedule, and the player count shows how deep in the game the decision came. These are the evidence, not the frame.

Show a rotation you made early and uncontested
Include a clip where you moved before the zone forced you and took a strong spot without a fight. It looks like nothing happening, and it is the clearest possible demonstration that you understand how competitive points are scored.

Label mode, event type and date on every clip
State Build or Zero Build, and state whether the clip is from an open tournament, a scrim or a public match. Fortnite changes fast, so date the footage too. Unlabelled clips get assumed to be public lobbies, which is the weakest reading.

Include one clip where you conserved rather than fought
Show yourself declining a fight to protect mats or position. Restraint is the hardest thing to teach a competitive Fortnite player and the easiest thing for a coach to value once they can actually see it on video.

Link full tournament VODs behind the edit
Keep the reel around two minutes and link complete recent competitive games behind it. Because tournament placements are public in this title, a verifiable reel is unusually powerful and an unverifiable one is unusually easy to dismiss.
